Travel Plastira lake

Our travel to lake Plastira started a beautiful snowy winter, though it is our great weakness and for the spring, when you will meet a green landscape. An artwork made from nature with a little help from General Nikolaos Plastiras, who in 1928 decided about a dam that would solve the problem of the fields of water and generally Karditsa Thessaly plain and also could produce much electricity. The project has been slow to materialize, although the nature eager to catch the brushes and transform a barren landscape to a large dream. The travel to Lake Plastira with an initial order to see the dam begins.

In Plastira lake any time of the year if you go there are many things you can do.

The route

Our journey started from Karditsa and after we have passed from the hospital of Karditsa and Georgiko (very small rural village), where there is the archaic temple of Apollo, we arrived in Metropolis (where you can both put petrol or shop at super-market), here you are very near the foot of the mountain and you can notice the pipes of the water coming down from the mountain and you can see and imagine the route you are going to follow. At the cross we turned left to Kastania and Mosxato in order to make for one more time our favorite circle of the Plastira lake. After a while you come across a small lake where you can drink a coffee and especially when weather is good and you can sit outside at tables and do not forget that there is a very large space for playing sports and having a good child time (tavern restaurant KYKNOS tel 55985). If you keep driving you will meet hydro-PPC factory, which can be visited in the morning.

After a while you will reach Mosxato, where you can stop and watch the landscape from the two very nearby small squareσ or try hot food in taverns (Bakxos Hotel restaurant, Prosilio tavern and at popular tavern call Sertiko). Then you meet the Monastery Corona and after a few revs you get to Tsardaki. Here you will pass from a beautiful special raod stage, in which you will pass by villages Agios Athanasios, Labero and several beach access with shops nearby tha lake (taverns and cafes) and finally you will arrive at the beautiful Kastania. We continue to reach the water dam where you can buy local products and gifts for friends.

Then the route will pass Kastania, Neochori and Kalybia Fylaktis.In this part of the journey can last from a few hours to several, depending on the attitudes that you do, there are nice taverns, some of which overlook the lake and certainly fireplace, tsipouro (local strong and hot dring) to treat. Going down will climb back to Metropolis, where essentially started a few hours ago maybe days (if you suddenly decide to stay in a hostel) our journey.

Hotels

On the travel to Plastira lake you can stay in a hotel, in furnished apartment or in hostel. You can either decide beforehand about where to will stay and book it, especially if it is winter time it can be difficult to find free and good room. On the other hand you can travel and visit some of the many places that will offer you not just a simple sleep and after that think about tha price, the view and tha place and decide where to stay.
